スウィントンパークに初めて家を建てたのは、1695年、イギリスの羊毛商人で田舎紳士のアブストラプス・ダンビー卿でした。彼の後継者たちは厩舎や門を建設し、1760年代には公園を整備し、5つの湖を作りました。1882年、サミュエル・カンリフ・リスターが68歳でこの城を購入した。彼は、3階を増築し、ダイニングルームを拡張するなどの大規模な建築計画に着手しました。1976年から1998年まで、リンドレー教育財団がこの城を管理し、経営者研修センターとして運営していた。2000年5月、モリーの曾孫にあたるマーク・カンリフ・リスターが、母親、兄、姉とともにこの城を購入した。2000年6月17日、マークとフェリシティ（現マシャム男爵夫妻）は結婚し、新婚旅行から戻ると、家業を始めるためにスウィントンに引っ越した。2001年、大規模な改装を経て、32の寝室を持つ豪華なキャッスルホテルがオープンした。
