The first building on Estate Shoys, where The Buccaneer is located, was constructed by Charles Martel, a Knight of Malta, all the way back in 1653. In 1733, when the Danes bought the island of St. Croix, their Governor von Prock built his home on the estate. He erected the Sugar Mill that still stands on site. The next owner was Michael Shoy, for whom the estate is named, and he began growing cotton there. After that came the Heyliger Company and its cattle ranch. The Armstrong family bought that ranch in 1922 and in 1947 opened The Buccaneer as a hotel with 11 rooms. It was the first hotel on the island to be built and operated by an island family. Now, nearly 75 years later, the resort is the oldest family-owned resort in the entire Caribbean. Elizabeth Armstrong is the third generation of her family to own and run the property.

Deluxe Oceanfront Oceanview King or Queen Room The spacious oceanfronts rooms are perched above the shore between Grotto and Mermaid Beaches. They sport distinctive 16-foot high wood ceilings and picture windows that frame magnificent sea views. Each room has a sitting area, and a stone patio that fronts the sea below. Just a minute's walk to either beach, these rooms offer the advantage of optionally connecting to another to accommodate families requiring two or more rooms. Please note that the price is based on 2 guests. Maximum occupancy is 3 adults and 2 children (see Hotel Policies).

Great House Ocean View These rooms are conveniently located near the main dining area, bar, shops, spa, pool, fitness room and lobby. A short stroll down the hill, or a brief ride in our courtesy vans, takes guests to our 3 beaches, seaside restaurants for lunch, and The Grotto Pool. These second-floor rooms provide magnificent views of the Caribbean Sea and Christiansted Harbor. Please note that the price is based on 2 guests. Maximum occupancy is 3 adults and 1 child (see Hotel Policies) .
